Mrs. Shearer - Media Studies (1st, 4th-8th)

I'm very excited to be returning to Garvy this school year. This is my 2nd year at Garvy and my 8th year as a teacher in the Chicagoland area.  I received my Bachelor’s Degrees in Business & Economics as well as Media Communications from North Park University.  After working in promotions and marketing I returned to North Park to complete my  Master’s of Arts in Teaching along with my teacher licensing credentials. I'm a native Chicagoan and in my free time I love to spend time with my family, try new restaurants and take walks around our neighborhood.

It has been amazing seeing what Garvy students have created over the last school year and we will continue to expand on their knowledge, response, and creativity as we continue to dive into the media arts. This year students will continue to work with me focusing on Digital Citizenship, Media Literacy, and creating Digital Media. You may be asking yourself, "What is media literacy?" Media literacy is the ability to ACCESS, ANALYZE, EVALUATE, CREATE and ACT using all forms of communication.

Each grade level will focus on the different areas of media literacy and digital citizenship along with a digital media focus for the school year.

Digital Media Focus

1st: Digital Safety, Typing, Sequencing, Computing, Algorithms, and Programming

4th: Google Tools (Docs, Slides, Sites, etc.) & Programming

5th: Audio Production

6th: Photography

7th: Video Production (Advertisement)

8th: Video Production (PSAs)
