Welcome to Second Grade!

My name is Adriana Fernandez and I am proud to be a member the Garvy family as I begin my seventeenth year of teaching in Chicago Public Schools. I am looking forward to an exciting year of teaching and learning!

WHY I TEACH

My fervent desire to “pay it forward” drives me to provide the students I serve with meaningful learning experiences like those I received. As a student, I was empowered to think critically, communicate my ideas clearly and effectively, and demonstrate empathy for others. I strive to create a welcoming classroom environment that encourages my students to work toward these ideals.

WHAT I TEACH

I teach students how to be good citizens and lifelong learners. I believe in helping students build strong foundational skills on which to base their future learning. I am committed to helping all students make progress and gain a sense of pride in their efforts.

HOW I TEACH

I have found that getting to know my students as young people with diverse interests and goals allows me to build a productive classroom community. I am passionate about being a lifelong learner myself and continue to discover strategies from professional books and resources.
