Additional Notes
Parking Concerns: With the weather changing and more parents driving to school, I want to remind everyone about the parking guidelines. We must all be mindful of the flow of traffic at arrival and dismissal times. We continue to get complaints from our neighbors on Oak Park. As a community, it is important that we work together to ensure safety for our students as well as maintain respect for our neighbors.
- Permit parking: The west side of Oak Park is permit parking. Do not park on that side of the street.
- Driveways: Do not block private driveways nor park in other unauthorized areas
- Double Parking: Refrain from double parking or stopping in the middle of the street
- Traffic Flow: Remember that Oak Park is a one way going north and Rutherford is a one way going south at arrival and dismissal time.
Garvy School Feedback Form: If you would like to provide any feedback, please feel free to use the following Google Form.
Staff Shout-out: Our staff shout out form is back! I want to provide a space for parents to show their gratitude for our hardworking staff. If you would like to give a shout out to a staff member, please fill out the following form. We will share all submissions with our staff. Parent to Staff Shout out Form
Level I & Level II Volunteer Application Process: All individuals who are interested in volunteering (includes chaperoning field trips) must be approved by CPS. Depending on the level of volunteering you plan to do, you will be asked to complete an application for either a “Level I” or “Level II” volunteer.
Steps to follow: (Please note: It is a CPS requirement that you fall into one of these two levels to become a volunteer)
Step 1: Complete THIS volunteer form for CPS This form is necessary for CPS to verify you have students in the system and that they attend the school you are requesting to volunteer at.
Step 2: Bring a government issued ID to the main office for verification. If you do not do this step, the process will not move forward.
For Level II, the process ends here.
For Level 1, you must also do the following:
Step 3: After you submit your ID, you will receive an email from CPS which will contain links and information for fingerprinting, background check and TB test. For fingerprinting, please fill out this form and take it to any Accurate Biometrics location. For the TB test, use this form. These tests can be completed at MercyWorks locations. Please note, there is a $20 TB test fee.
Step 4: Email copies of both the fingerprints and TB test to [email protected]. The sooner they receive these forms, the faster your application can be processed. Please note, fingerprints can take 2-5 weeks to process.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Flora L from HR 202. She will represent Garvy School at the Reverberate festival by performing a Vietnamese folk song. RE•VER•BER•ATE is a free multidisciplinary arts festival for all CPS students taking place in downtown Chicago. Hosted at the Chicago Cultural Center from April 22nd-25th from 10am-1pm daily, the festival is a celebration of the incredible talents of CPS students in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. Learn more about the festival through this short mini-documentary.
We also have three Garvy students, Leah from HR 212, Ainhoa from HR 208, and Victoria from HR221, participating in the CPS Spanish Oratory Competition. This competition has 40 schools and 90 students participating. Our students have selected Spanish poems, memorized them, and will recite them in front of the audience. The competition will be held on April 22-23rd at Cooper Elementary School.
We wish you all good luck!!
Illinois State Testing
Every year, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) administers required state assessments that help us gauge how our students are growing academically compared to their peers across the state.
Garvy will administer the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) in Grades 5th and 8th only, on Thursday, April 3rd and Friday, April 4th. Students in grades 3-8 will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) the week of April 8th. Retakes will be conducted April 11-17th.
